About ASAP

The Asylum Support Appeals Project (ASAP) provides free legal advice and representation for asylum seekers who are appealing decisions about accommodation and financial support from the Home Office and engage in policy work to improve asylum support law.

Our work with Asylum Support Appeals Project (ASAP)

Diversity, Equality and Inclusion: increasing the voices of those with lived experience of asylum support.
In 2023 we were commissioned to provide a combination of an audit and board/staff training to look at how ASAP is progressing with its goal of increasing the voices of those with lived experience of asylum support. We also discussed how ASAP can become a more diverse, inclusive and accessible organisation.

Two training sessions were attended by 12 trustees, then 11 staff members. The training for the Board 2023 (online) and staff (face to face) was developed after the audit had taken place and in consultation with the CEO. It gave participants the opportunity to examine their own starting point and to consider the impact of their own experience.

‘Despite low attrition rates we do have to think about how we make it much easier for people with lived experience to want to join ASAP. They can have a direct influence on more asylum seekers asking for appeals’.

‘A thoroughly interesting and insightful session’.
